Comparison between AF-series flux and fluorite (CaF2)
The AF-series provides an innovative better and faster desulfurization flux in the steel industry. Compared with traditional metallurgical fluorite, the AF-series products have better and more stable outstanding performance in terms of quality and effect speed.
AF-series products are compounds composed of sodium fluoride (NaF), calcium fluoride (CaF2), aluminum fluoride (AIF3) and other fluorides and aluminum oxide (Al2O3)H with a certain chemical balance. They are continuously developed based on customer requirements and feedback in the steel industry.
Compared with fluorite, AF-series products help molten steel to form a basic milky slag at lower temperatures; AF-series products can increase the solubility of calcium oxide (CaO) and magnesium oxide (MgO) more than fluorite.
In addition, after a faster and higher performance treatment, AF-series products can even increase the fluidity of slag at a lower temperature than metallurgical fluorite.
The AF-series products as an artificially produced solvent have unparalleled advantages in chemical composition stability than natural mineral fluorite.
The content of silica in AF-series products is less than 2%, which can produce clean steel with less impurities. In terms of effective desulfurization, AF-3-S is specially developed for the production of stainless steel, while AF-3-F, AF-5-F and AF-7-F are specially developed for the production of carbon steel.
AF-3-S can be used to replace acid grade fluorite with 97% calcium fluoride (CaF2).
Different ladle refractory materials require different fluxes. AF-series products can reduce the loss of ladle refractory materials by reducing the desulfurization time. AF-5-E is the best choice for alumina/silica as ladle refractory: AF-3-F, AF-5-F and AF-7-F are magnesium oxide/dolomite for ladle refractory best plan.
AF-series products use the same method as traditional metallurgical fluorite (CaF2), but the consumption will be relatively reduced.
To meet your different desulfurization needs, AFC experts will be very honored to recommend the best AF-series flux solutions for you.
Customer Reviews
AF-3-F is a better product that replaces CaF2 used in our production process. In addition to the benefits of using AF-3-F products, we also appreciate the professional support provided by AFC. We highly recommend that every steel mill can use it to replace CaF2.

In the current pressing economic environment of our industry, we appreciate every effort to reduce costs. AFC and their desulfurization fluxes have brought us significant savings in raw material costs without requiring any changes to the process. At the same time, we are also very grateful for the flexibility and reliability of the work of AFC colleagues.
K.V.L., Factory Director, Turkey
After a successful test, we observed that AF-3-F can achieve a better performance by reducing the melting temperature of the slag to achieve a milky viscosity of the slag. This result shows a significant reduction in flux consumption. At the same time, we also benefit from the shortening of the desulfurization process time, thereby reducing the corrosion of the ladle refractories. From a production point of view, we found no problems.

Reduce flux consumption and increase efficiency
AF-series products are effective, fast and cost-effective slag modifiers. Due to the relatively low consumption rate, AF-series products have an advantage over metallurgical fluorite. Consistent material quality guarantees stable desulfurization results.
increase income
The lower melting point of AF-series products can help reduce energy consumption, thereby increasing the profitability of your business.
Fast desulfurization extends the life of refractories
The use of AF-series products increases the life of ladle refractories. Customer experience shows that compared to fluorite (CaF2), the AF-series has a lower silica content and better performance, which can increase the life of ladle refractories by at least 5%.
Supply and price advantage
The AF-series flux has a price advantage. By using AF series products instead of fluorite, you can save up to 35% on the total cost. At the same time, our stable prices can be guaranteed through flexible logistics and distribution solutions to strengthen your material planning process to be met.
Flexible particle size
All products we provide are of standard particle size. At the same time, we can also provide special particle size according to your specific process requirements.
Better slag, effective and fast desulfurization and purer molten steel
Lime (CaO) dissolved in the slag has a significant effect on desulfurization. However, the solubility of lime is limited during the desulfurization process. In the desulfurization reaction, the contact surface of lime particles and molten steel will be continuously covered by sediments, thus limiting the solubility of lime.
Although metallurgical fluorite (CaF2) can help to decompose unstable phases such as Ca2SiO4, due to its mineral structure, fluorite has added a considerable amount of silica and calcium when calcium oxide (lime) already exists. The composition and temperature of the slag depends on the amount of lime melted in the slag. Once the solubility of lime in the slag is saturated, adding more calcium will only increase the viscosity of the slag and suppress the desulfurization reaction. Therefore, in order to achieve the desired solubility, it is necessary to add more fluorite.
AF-series products, because of their low melting point characteristics, can maintain slag fluidity at lower temperatures. Compared with fluorite, they increase the solubility of calcium oxide (CaO) and magnesium oxide (MgO) without adding any additional calcium. In addition, AF-series products can lower the melting point temperature and slag viscosity better than fluorite. The alumina in the formulation can further increase the fluidity of the slag. Since the AF-series products have faster and higher performance than fluorite at low temperatures, this increases the fluidity of the slag, resulting in a better and faster desulfurization reaction.
